The Property
Trevenek is a detached single storey cottage, situated in the little village of Slockavullin in the historic Kilmartin Glen, Argyll, an area of outstanding archaeological importance and one of Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscapes.

Forest and canal-side walks are all within easy access, and the nearby Crinan Harbour offers water-based activities, including fishing and sailing trips. There are also many restaurants in the area, including the Crinan Hotel, famous for its seafood.

Inside
The cottage is entirely on the ground floor, with step free access and has a parking space at the front. The cosy front room has a wood-fired stove, TV/DVD player and CD. The kitchen diner has an electric oven and hob, microwave cooker, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. A small study provides a working area with internet access for the holiday-maker’s own laptop or tablet, and phone (incoming and emergency outgoing calls only).

One bedroom has twin beds which are normally placed together with a king-sized duvet over both. There is an option to request the beds to be separated with their own single duvets if required. The smaller bedroom has a standard size double bed. The bathroom has bath and over-bath electric shower. Heating is via storage heaters and wood burner.

Outside
The cottage is at the top of the village, and final access is via an un-metalled road - drivers are advised to take the road slowly and carefully. A secluded area in the back garden provides a seating area.

Cyclists may wish to know that the cottage is near to West Highland cycling routes passing through Kilmartin, and that there is a bike awning (out of sight from the front) where bikes can be locked.

A small public green immediately in front of the cottage provides an additional playing space for children.

Dogs are very welcome but because of free-range chickens and other livestock would need to be kept on a lead when in the outside vicinity and we would ask guests to note that the front garden is unenclosed, and that a small dog which is unsupervised might be able to get through the fencing/bushes which enclose the back garden. Guests may therefore wish to keep their dogs on a lead out in the garden.

Explore
Kilmartin village, a pleasant 30 minute walk or 5 minute drive away, has the Kilmartin Hotel (which as well as a pub and hotel serving meals can organise fishing and sea trips). The renowned Kilmartin House Museum offers fascinating exhibits including The Valley of Ghosts audio-visual experience, and has a bookshop and award winning café.

Lochgilphead is eight miles away, and has a supermarket, delicatessen, wine shop, gift shops and a well-stocked book shop. There is a swimming pool, and a doctors’ surgery. KILMARTIN
Kilmartin Glen is one of Scotland’s’ richest prehestoric landscapes, occupied by for over 7000 years and was once the heart of the ancient kingdom Dalriada.  With their kings being crowned at the top of Dunadd Fort. Explore the Linear Cemetry and be intrigued by many chambered cairns, standing stones as seen and stone circles. A visit to Kilmartin is a must where these intriguing monuments take you back in time.

DIRECTIONS
Directions from the South: take A82 from Glasgow (or M8 followed by M898 (Erskine Bridge) and then A82), along Loch Lomond side, taking the A83 at Tarbet through Arrochar and Inverarary to Lochgilphead ; take A816 to Oban and turn left on B8025, a mile before reaching the village of Kilmartin. Slockavullin is in a cul-de-sac, so follow the road as far as it takes you. Trevenek is the detached cottage at the very top of the village.

Note that the final stretch of road is very rutted and stony so please be careful.

Lovely comfortable cottage
5/5 Stars Upfront Reviews - August 2024
We really enjoyed our stay in Trevenek cottage. The weather was really rainy the whole weekend so we spent more time inside the cottage than originally planned - so I'm pleased to say that it a lovely cosy place to stay. The wood burning fire was much appreciated and the kitchen is really well supplied with everything you could need. The position of the cottage is great for anyone interested in seeing all the amazing archeology sites in Kilmartin Glen and it's also really well placed for visits to the Nature Reserves at Taynish, Knapdale and Moine Mhor and for walks along the coast or the Crinnan canal.

A cosy cottage, useful layout with large kitchen and bedrooms in separate 'wing' so they are quiet. Easy walking and cycling access to all the archaeological sites of Kilmartin.

A lovely cottage with all the essentials for a relaxing and pleasant stay. Great for touring the area, visiting the many neolithic sites (within walking distance), wildlife spotting along the coast or having some get away from it all quiet time.

Short stay at Trevenek

Oct 2020
Despite not so great weather, we had a wonderful stay at Trevenek. It is a beautiful, very well appointed and sparklingly clean cottage, tucked away in Slockavulin yet close to all of the places we wanted to visit.
It was fantastic to have cosy evenings with the log burner on after a day exploring in the rain. Highly recommend - we’ll be back.

Great Base

4.8/5 Upfront Reviews - July 2018

Super little cottage, well maintained with everything we could need. Lots of extras included like tea and coffee, toilet and kitchen rolls, cleaning products. Quiet location with excellent walks for the dog, short drive or 30min walk from Kilmartin. Pub served excellent food and is dog friendly too. We used the cottage as a base to explore Argyll and the Islands, exceptionally beautiful area, we will be returning to explore more.

Early June in Argyll

5/5 Upfront Reviews - June 2018

The cottage provided a tranquil base from which to explore the surrounding area. Beautiful scenery and a lovely coastline all very nearby. There were lots of ideas for local walks and places to visitin Argyll and the notes about the facilities at the cottage itself were really comprehensive and useful.

Peaceful and homely

4.2/5 Upfront Reviews - May 2018

Lovely homely cottage tucked away in a peaceful small village. Comfortable and very spacious for 2 people. Very interesting area for touring.

Perfect location for exploring the Kilmartin valley

4.5/5 Upfront Reviews - Oct 2017

Trevenek cottage was great for us - perfect location to explore Kilmartin Valley. There was a very small problem when we arrived and it was sorted perfectly by the housekeeper / owners, they are both lovely!! The cottage decor is a little dated, but it added to the charm. The only negative is the shower, which has very little pressure. Thank you for letting us stay at Trevenek!
