MORVERN
Ardtornish estate is in the southerly corner of the beautiful Morvern peninsula, which forms the extreme south-western point of the Highland region.

Morvern is approximately 200 square miles, with Ardnamurchan to the north-west, Sunart and Ardgour to the north, and bounded by the Sound of Mull to the south, Loch Linnhe to the east and Loch Sunart to the north.  Morvern is a stunning and dramatic region with a geology and topography that reflect a turbulent volcanic history.  The main settlement in Morvern is Lochaline, which also serves as a ferry terminal to Fishnish on Mull.
Lochaline supports a pier side café, a general store, a post office, a pub, a hotel, a petrol station, a medical centre, a primary school, a church, a craft shop and a social club. There is also a Dive Centre and an award winning restaurant (The White House Restaurant), as well the Lochaline Sand Mine and a community forest nearby.  There is also an anchorage facility at Lochaline Harbour.

DIRECTIONS
Almost all visitors drive to Ardtornish – either from home, or having taken the overnight sleeper train to Fort William, or flown to Glasgow or Inverness. Unless you are on a walking holiday there really isn’t any other convenient way of getting here.

In all of these circumstances the quickest way to drive to Ardtornish is to take the Corran Ferry across Loch Linnhe just 8 miles south of Fort William. The ferry takes about 5 minutes and saves a good hour’s driving around the top of the Loch. There are usually two sailings every hour.

The latest Corran Ferry Timetable is at this link: https://www.highland.gov.uk/corranferry

1.As you drive off the Corran Ferry onto the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, turn left onto the A861 and continue straight ahead for 12.5 miles.
2.Turn left off the A861 onto the A884 at the top of Loch Sunart where the turning is signposted to Lochaline and Mull Ferry, continue straight ahead for 15.7 miles.
3.Turn left off the A884 onto the estate road where the turning is signposted Ardtornish. You are now only a few minutes from your destination.

The drive from the Corran Ferry to Ardtornish takes under an hour. If you get to Lochaline village you have gone a bit too far!

Another visit to our home from home. Its a delightful place, wildlife and a beautiful setting. The staff are all wonderful and friendly, no problem too small for them to help.

Cracking Castle Cottage
4.8 Stars Upfront Reviews - May 2025
We’ve stayed at Ardtornish 3 times before but it was the first time in Castle Cottage so we were unsure what to expect of the accommodation. The cottage is possibly a little tired but it is amazingly comfortable and neither of us had slept so well in a long time! It also had everything you needed to cook despite such a compact kitchen.
We went already knowing we loved the estate and area but not knowing exactly what we would do as I am currently waiting knee replacement surgery and not up to walking as far as normal. I needn’t have worried as I found the perfect spot in the bay window and spent a lot of time there watching the ever present wildlife - birds on the feeders and on the loch and a few sightings of otters. We also enjoyed nocturnal visits from pine martens which was the only thing that disturbed our sleep!
As always the staff were very friendly and keen to help.
We loved the cottage so much, we’ve already booked for next year!

Wonderful Stay

4.8 Stars Upfront Reviews - May 2025

We love staying at Castle Cottage, and always have a great time. Just small things to suggest - a small frying pan would be great, and having the big armchair with its back to the main window makes no sense with that view!! We will be back of course!

An amazing winter break

5/5 Stars Upfront Reviews - February 2025

A great experience from start to finish! Arrival was so smooth and the welcome was delightful! There is not one thing we could say negatively about Castle Cottage or Ardtornish estate. The setting was so stunning and we spent many a happy hour wandering around the estate taking photos. We saw many sea eagles, golden eagles, pine martens, stags and an otter. My husband is a wildlife photographer so it was absolute heaven for him. I could not hesitate to recommend Ardtornish estate highly enough and we will definitely be booking again.
