KAMES
Kames is a tiny little village on the west coast of Scotland in Argyll & Bute. Along with the neighboring village of Tighnabruaich, it offers a tranquil gataway for sailors, fishermen and folks who just want to enjoy the view. It is a popular weekend cruising destination and a great stop over on the way north to the West Highlands via the Crinan Canal. Tucked away in a small corner of the south west of Cowal Peninsula. Here on Argyll's Secret Coast you will find the most stunning scenery at every turn.
DIRECTIONS
Getting here by road from Glasgow is a fabulous drive takes you up the side of Loch Lomond, through the Arrochar Alps and over the world-famous Rest and Be Thankful. The final stretch winds along the coast with the Kyles of Bute stretching out ahead. There are some wonderful viewpoints dotted along this road. Take the A82 along Loch Lomond to Tarbet, then the A83 towards Inveraray and Campbeltown. At Cairndow, turn left on to the A815, then at Strachur turn right on to the A886, signposted Glendaruel and Colintraive. Just after Glendaruel turn right onto the A8003 towards Tighnabruaich. Once in Tighnabruaich follow signs for Kames.
Getting here by road and ferry is another option is to get the ferry from Gourock to Dunoon and enjoy a drive through remote, mountainous country. The writer Iain Banks reckons it’s one of best wee roads in Scotland. You then pick up the same coastal road as above. Take the A8 to Gourock, then Western Ferries from McInroy’s Point to Hunter’s Quay near Dunoon. Turn right on to A815, then shortly after leaving the 40mph area, turn left on B836, a winding single track road with passing places. After about 17 miles, turn right on A886, then left on A8003 towards Tighnabruaich.
Just perfect

We had a lovely stay at Gate cottage. Well equipped with everything you need. We just loved it.
What a beautiful part of Scotland to stay. We managed to see seals on the water not far from the cottage a and loved watching the small boats sailing near by. Would love to go back

Our stay here was lovely, unfortunately we were staying during Storm Agnes so the weather was dreadful. Beautiful cottage, a little out of the way and a long trip down but if you are looking for peace and quite and a beautiful view of Bute and the Kyle of Bute then this is the place to stay. We found the ferries brilliant very quick and much easier ro come via the ferries than all the way down from Loch Lomond. The cottage has everything and was spotless. Would definitely recommend Gate Cottage.
Very comfortable cottage, fantastic views. Excellent location.

Everything about this location and cottage was fantastic. The view out over the sea was beautiful where you could watch the gannets diving to feed and the otters swimming in the evening. All the facilities were clean, comfortable and everything worked well. The local hotel was within walking distance and served good food. Can also highly recommend The Wild Kitchen ,also walkable, for superb coffee and awesome cake! No shortage of places to see, things to do, fabulous views and pubs and eateries with a selection of fish and seafood to die for.
