OTTER FERRY
Musselshell Lodge is on the east side of Loch Fyne on the B8000, about 16 miles south of Strachur and close to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Otter Ferry itself is a quiet backwater but is within easy reach of Inveraray, Bute, Loch Lomond and Dunoon. The drive down the lochside to Tighnabruaich must be one of the most beautiful in Scotland.
The small communities along Loch Fyne are known for their oyster fishing and fine restaurants which offer this delicacy. Close to the small community of Otter Ferry is the Otter Ferry Seafish business, one of several fish farms and hatcheries in the area. The well-known Oystercatcher restaurant in Otter Ferry is in a beautiful location right on the beach and offers first class food and award-winning real ales brewed locally in the nearby Fyne Ales Brewery at the top of Loch Fyne.
Excellent place to unwind5/5 Star Upfront Review - October 2023If you’re looking for somewhere, well away from the madding crowd, then, the Tighnabruaich area, where the Musselshell Lodge is, is just the place. It’s overlooking the shores of Lough Fyne, which fill the view through the large sliding door onto your lovely wooden balcony. The lodge has all the modern comforts you could need. WiFi, dishwasher, lovely silent Mira showers! The electric car charger was such a welcome boon too. It’s about a half-hour drive to shops at Kyle and Tighnabruaich, and the ferry at Portavadie for Kintyre. There are lovely walks around the Ballimore Estate where the lodge is located. There’s a pub and restaurant just a 15 minute ramble away, at Otter Ferry. Excellent food, and fabulously friendly staff.A lovely retreat.
Beautiful location, excellent value
5/5 Star Upfront Review - July 2023
Spent a week at Musselshell Lodge, and couldn't have been happier. Clean, comfortable, with immediate response from the caretakers when we had an issue with the plumbing toward the end of our stay. If we ever decide to holiday in that region again, without a doubt we'd stay here. Highly recommend!
Perfect retreat

Peaceful retreat for rest and recuperation. Used it as a base for cycling trips. Very warm and comfortable.
Views splendid
Great location for a comfy lodge
5/5 Star Upfront Review - Feb 2022
Musselshell Lodge was a great stay for the long weekend. Given the dreadful weather, being able to light a fire and watch the water was just fantastic. It cozied up in no time and was a great base to explore the shores of Loch Fyne, on foot and by car.
Peaceful, quiet, and had everything we could have needed.
What a beautiful setting..
5/5 Star Upfront Review - June 2021
A wonderful relaxed week in a stunning setting. Musselshell Lodge was spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. The living areas, the deck and the main double bedroom has sea views, so lovely to wake up to the views. An ideal location to explore the region or to just chill out. We loved the peaceful location, beach-combing and the nearby walks. We had a delicious lunch at the famous Inver restaurant in Strathlachlan, (30 mins away from lodge) the food was delicious and of a high standard – pre-booking is a must. The nearest store is 30 minutes away so make sure you stock up well. There is online shopping available to be delivered to the lodge with the Co-Op and a seafood delivery van called ‘Fynest Fish’ selling fresh fish, fruit and vegetables that passes through each Wednesday but all must be pre-booked online. The local pub 'The 'Oystercatcher' is just a mile away. We cant wait to return.
Fantastically comfortable lodge with amazing views, and a tranquility.
5/5 Star Upfront Review - June 2021
If you just want a place to put your feet up and breathe you really couldn't do much better than here. The lodge is well equipped, very comfortable and minutes from the excellent Oystercatcher. Once here you can explore the lovely Cowal peninsula, or just stay put. Either way you'll have a lovely time.Be aware there's not much around so do come equipped with supplies, especially as CoVid requirements mean little is supplied. Do not rely on eating at the Oystercatcher your first night either, it is very popular. Booking is essential.
