DIRECTIONS FROM GLASGOW

Option 1: By ferry: There are two regular car ferry services across the Clyde from Gourock ( half an hour on the M8 from Glasgow) to Dunoon. The Calmac ferry links with trains from Glasgow, whilst for cars, Western Ferries is normally more convenient operating, at peak times, 4 times an hour. Glendaruel is approximately 18 miles from Dunoon, taking the B836 through Glen Lean and then the A8003 towards Tighnabruaich [we are one and a half miles from that turning].

Option 2: By road: Cross the Clyde on the Erskine Bridge (3 miles from Glasgow Airport on the M8) and take the A82 alongside Loch Lomond to Tarbet, then over the ’Rest and Be Thankful’ (the A83) ) before turning left onto the A815, sign-posted Dunoon. At the village of Strachur turn right onto the A886 and after 15 miles, just after the Clachan of Glendaruel, turn right again onto the A8003 towards Tighnabruaich We are located one and a half miles from that junction.

Fantastic cottage
5/5 Star Upfront Review - November 2024

Our stay in Shelduck was tranquil and so relaxing. Amazing location. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. We will definitely return. Most comfortable beds too.

A beautiful oasis
4.5/5 Star Upfront Review - July 2024

Andrew’s property is perfect for a family getaway.

Great for small kids, dogs and older adults, with all the amenities you could need on one floor and red squirrels 30 seconds from the house. Every room has an en suite and bath/shower. Great stay.

We had a wonderful break
4.8/5 Star Upfront Review - June 2023
This is a really comfortable cottage in a lovely peaceful spot. There were lots of places within a short drive to keep us happy, but we also enjoyed getting the little ferry to Bute and going further afield up to Inverary, then down to Tarbert and getting the ferry back from there. There's a little Marina opposite which is a nice place for a drink and a snack. Our favourite spot in the cottage was the sun room, looking out at the lovely garden and watching the many variety of birds. We had a bit of difficulty accessing WiFi, but that didn't bother us much. The owners were very helpful and welcoming.

4.8/5 Star Upfront Reviews - April 2023

A lovely comfortable, well-equipped, pet-friendly cottage in a superb location. Great walks and lots of nice pubs/restaurants within a short drive. Wouldn't hesitate to book again in the future. Andrew, the owner, popped by to welcome us on our first evening and was very helpful with information.

Shellduck

AirBnB Review - August 2022
This is the perfect retreat for some quality family time: the loch was so quiet it felt like we had exclusive use! The cottage is spacious and very well equipped. Andrew & Sheila are very welcoming and great fun. There was a lot still to explore and do. A highlight was kayaking to Caladh harbour, which then made the perfect swimming & picnic spot. All in all, a fabulous break.

September holiday

A lovely spacious cottage near the loch. A road at the front which was not busy . There are 3 red squirrels near by, but only saw one fleetingly. Plenty of garden birds. A quiet and peaceful situation.

Idyllic and quiet

July 2021
This is a perfect location for a peaceful holiday we booked both cottages and had a wonderful week, the view was stunning, the owners a friendly couple, remember go supermarket shopping before arrival as its around 16 miles to nearest and 6 to the local shop xxx

A beautiful cottage, idyllic location and Andrew was so helpful - can’t wait to return!

June/July 2021

“We had the most wonderful stay with you and can’t wait to return. The cottage was perfect for our family and the location was idyllic. I can’t believe I haven’t been to that part of the world before, but it was stunning and the cottage was perfectly placed to reach all of local towns and islands. It was so peaceful and the cottage itself was beautiful. We would love to come back again and take both cottages so that more of our family can experience such a special place. Andrew was brilliant, really helpful and with lots of local knowledge. Thank you!”
